Rustic Claptop
This project involved a rear, side, and substantial loft extension of a dilapidated property in Highgate, North London.
The setbacks and volumes were carefully navigated through the planning process, enabling us to develop a viable and contextually appropriate scheme.
The design added over 100m² of gross internal area and nearly 80m³ to the roofscape—well beyond what would typically be allowed under permitted development rights.
The clients' design brief called for a modern-classical aesthetic, featuring strong architectural elements such as Crittall-style doors, London stock brick walls, and sleek zinc cladding on the loft extension.
To complement these, large skylights were installed on the ground floor, flooding the interior with diffuse, north-facing light.
The original property was completely gutted and reconfigured to align precisely with the new owners’ requirements, transforming it into a bespoke home that harmonizes modern design with classical touches.
