We were asked to completely redesign this 3 bedroom apartment overlooking the river in Fulham, tailoring it to the young family's needs. Part of our proposal included opening up through a large reinforced concrete wall, which required a significant amount of engineering. Installing 2 large steel frames either side of the wall allowed us to execute the works, and in turn opening up the kitchen to the living room.
All the remaining non-structural partitions were removed in order to reconfigure the apartment to add significant storage, a laundry room, and an additional ensuite bathroom. As the existing ceiling is a concrete slab, new perimeter bulkheads were dropped around the main living spaces to provide modern lighting and projector screens that complement the minimal aesthetic and finish.
